Partnership commences with after school programming at Nerd Street Gamers’ esports and gaming center, Localhost St. Louis, which boasts professional-level gaming equipment

PHILADELPHIA, March 8, 2021– Nerd Street Gamers, the national esports infrastructure company, announced today a partnership with Brentwood Parks and Recreation (Parks & Rec) in Missouri to provide esports access to youth. This multi-phase collaboration will begin with a fun and safe in-person after school esports program for children ages 7-13 in the Spring at Nerd Street Gamers esports and gaming center – Localhost St. Louis.

The after school program will be part of Camp Localhost, Nerd Street Gamers’ play-centric approach to teaching esports. It will run Mondays and Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. CT starting March 29th through May 21st, and will feature popular games like Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Rocket League and FIFA; Campers will be able to drop in on a rolling basis.

“Our goals of accessibility and opportunity in esports propel everything we do at Nerd Street Gamers and we are thrilled to be working with an organization that shares a similar mission in Brentwood Parks & Rec,” said Taryn McCarty Manager of Local Partnerships and Nerd Street Network. “This will be our second program with a Parks & Rec department to lower the barrier of entry into esports and we hope to work with many more.”

This announcement follows Nerd Street Gamers’ recent news regarding its new partnership with Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. Both of these engagements shed light on the opportunities for esports organizations and parks and recreation groups to partner together to bring competitive esports experiences to local youth.

With a focus on child development, this after school program encourages gamers to socialize with others, make friends and develop critical thinking skills, all within the environment of esports. Nerd Street Gamers will provide professional, background screened coaches that will serve as role models for the campers.

“As the esports industry continues to grow in the St. Louis region, we wanted to join the trend by providing a fun and exciting gaming experience for youth in the Brentwood community,” said Rebecca Krzyszkowski, Recreation Supervisor at Brentwood Parks & Rec. “When we heard Nerd Street was coming to our area, we felt like this was a perfect opportunity to bring esports to life!”

The program will take place at Localhost St. Louis (83 Brentwood Promenade Ct, Brentwood, MO 63144), which is one of several Localhosts connected to Five Below stores across the country. To ensure a safe experience that addresses any COVID-19 restrictions, Localhost and Five Below have implemented new cleaning and standard operating procedures, and all participants will be required to wear a mask in the venue.
