What to watch this weekend in esports

by Brian Bencomo

Don’t know what to watch this weekend? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a rundown of some of the most intriguing games and tournaments happening this weekend.

VALORANT

The VALORANT Champions Tour continues this weekend with the third and final closed qualifier of NA Challengers, organized by Nerd Street Gamers. By Sunday we’ll find out which four teams are joining Team Envy, Sentinels, Immortals and XSET in the first NA Masters event, which starts next week.

Eight teams are competing this weekend to try to reach Masters. Most of them are familiar names like 100 Thieves, TSM and NRG, but the one big surprise is DuhHoonkaBonKuhloos aka DHBK. They’ll face off against Luminosity Gaming to kick things off Thursday. 100 Thieves will be one of the teams to keep an eye on as they signed former CS:GO pro Ethan “Ethan” Arnold earlier this week and benched Quan “dicey” Tran.

League of Legends

Cloud9 has started to separate a bit from the pack. After going 3-0 last weekend, they’re now atop the LCS standings by two games. They’ll face TSM, who’s tied for second place, on Sunday. 100 Thieves is also tied for second, and they’ll face TSM too this weekend. A surprising Dignitas team is tied for third just below these two teams, and they will match up against — you guessed it — TSM.

The Atlanta FaZe and Dallas Empire await the winners of Thursday’s winner’s bracket matchups. The winner of the grand finals on Sunday gets $200,000 and 75 CDL points.
