September 19, 2020 – Nerd Street Gamers and Maestro Filmworks received their first Emmy win for FTW Philly – Enabled Gaming. The team took home the Lifestyle Program – Feature/Segment Emmy for the series that ran on NBC Sports Philadelphia in 2019.

“This Emmy win is a true testament to the skill and passion our media team has for creating content about the esports industry,” Nerd Street Gamers founder and CEO John Fazio said. “I see the talents that this team displays everyday, so I am proud that they could be recognized on a regional level.”

The Enabled Gaming feature focuses on the importance of mental and physical health in the esports scene. The episode highlighted gamers of all levels working to stay mentally and physically fit, and included an exclusive interview with one passionate young man who doesn’t allow his disability to prevent him from reaching his goal of competitive gaming.

“The Enabled Gaming feature in FTW Philly was an honor to work on,” said Alex Frederick, executive producer for FTW Philly. “We wanted to shed light on the benefits of gaming and the roles it can play in people’s lives. Gaming has a way of creating an escape for so many people, regardless of age, whether it’s to relax, sharpen your mind or help you separate from the real world, there are often benefits to gaming that go unnoticed.”

FTW Philly’s 10 episode season covered all things esports in the Philadelphia area and showcased stories that are helping drive this booming industry. Hosted by Marisa Magnatta, WMMR’s Preston and Steve Show producer, the series shined a light on the rapid development of the Philadelphia esports scene, linking it to the global growth of esports overall.
